Married in the Algarve or Douro? How to Preserve Your Wedding Bouquet

A guide for couples marrying across Portugal, from the Algarve to the Douro, Sintra and the Alentejo, on how to preserve your wedding bouquet at our Coimbra studio and receive the framed piece back home.

Portugal draws couples from all over the world, and the celebrations tend to happen in a handful of much loved regions: the Algarve in the south, the Douro Valley and Porto in the north, Sintra and the Lisbon coast in the centre, and the quintas of the Alentejo. Wherever you say your vows, the same happy problem arrives at the end of the night: the bouquet.

Your bouquet does not have to stay in Portugal

Fresh flowers rarely survive a flight home, and carrying fresh plants across borders is often restricted. The good news is that you do not have to choose between your bouquet and your flight. You preserve the bouquet here, and we send the finished frame to you, wherever you live.

It works from any region in Portugal

Our studio is in Ceira, Coimbra, in the centre of the country. You do not need to bring the bouquet yourself. There are three ways for it to reach us:

  1. Collection at your venue. Depending on the region and the date, our team may be able to collect the bouquet directly at the quinta or hotel. This is arranged in advance and quoted separately.
  2. Courier from anywhere in Portugal. Your planner, venue coordinator or a friend can send the flowers to us by fragile or urgent courier from any point in the country. We wrote a step by step guide to packing and shipping your flowers.
  3. Hand delivery in Coimbra. If your route home passes through central Portugal, you can drop the bouquet at the studio by appointment, weekends included.

Whether you marry in the Algarve, the Douro, Sintra or the Alentejo, the courier option works the same way from every region. Venue collection depends on the location and the date, so it is worth asking early.

How it works when you are not in Portugal

Everything after the wedding happens remotely, in English:

  • Each petal is pressed by hand, with no resin and no chemicals.
  • Before anything is framed, we send you photographs of the composition to approve. Nothing is sealed without your agreement.
  • The frame is finished with museum grade anti UV glass and shipped to your home worldwide, with insurance and specialist packaging.
  • You follow every stage through a private tracking link at status.floresabeirario.pt.

Timings to keep in mind

Flowers are freshest, and the result is best, when they reach us within the first few days after the wedding (up to six days). The preservation itself takes up to six months, because pressing is delicate and cannot be rushed. Prices start at €300, with payment split into three stages.

One tip that makes it effortless

Before the wedding, ask one person to look after the bouquet: your planner, the venue coordinator, or a bridesmaid who stays a little longer. Their only job is to put it in water after the party and hand it to us or send it. Couples who plan this small detail in advance never have to think about it on the day.
