A Guide for UK and Irish Brides Marrying in Portugal

What British and Irish couples need to know about preserving their wedding bouquet in Portugal: how the flowers reach our Coimbra studio, approving the design from home, and shipping the framed piece to the UK or Ireland.

Portugal is one of the most loved destinations for British and Irish couples, and every year we preserve bouquets from weddings held here by people who live in the UK and Ireland. It is a wonderful place to marry, and it leaves you with the same little dilemma every couple faces at the end of the weekend: you fly home, and the bouquet stays behind.

Why you cannot simply take it home

Fresh flowers rarely survive the journey, and the rules on carrying fresh plants across borders can be restrictive, especially outside the EU. Between the flight, the heat and the days without water, even a bouquet that could travel would arrive in no state to keep.

The good news is that you do not have to lose it.

The simple solution

You preserve the bouquet here in Portugal, and we ship the finished frame to your home in the UK or Ireland. Nothing has to travel with you on the plane, and months later your bouquet arrives at your door as a piece of art.

Everything happens in English

We work in English throughout. You can reach us by WhatsApp, email, or a free video call, and the whole process, from your first question to approving the final design, happens in your language.

Many Portuguese wedding planners already know us, and we work directly with them on the logistics. If yours does not, simply introduce us by email or WhatsApp and we take it from there.

How your flowers reach us

You do not need to hand in the bouquet yourself. There are three ways:

  1. Collection at your venue. Depending on the region and the date, our team may be able to collect the bouquet at your quinta or hotel. This is arranged in advance and quoted separately.
  2. Courier within Portugal. Your planner, coordinator or a friend can send the flowers to our studio by fragile or urgent courier from anywhere in the country. Here is our guide to packing and shipping your flowers.
  3. Hand delivery in Coimbra. If you have time before flying home, you can drop the bouquet at the studio by appointment, weekends included.

Approving the design and receiving the frame

Each petal is pressed by hand, with no resin and no chemicals. Before anything is framed, we send you photographs of the composition to approve. The frame is then finished with museum grade anti UV glass and shipped to your address with insurance and specialist packaging. You can follow every stage through a private tracking link at status.floresabeirario.pt.

Timings and cost

Flowers should reach us within the first few days after the wedding, up to six days. The preservation itself takes up to six months, because pressing cannot be rushed. Prices start at €300, paid in three stages.

Already home without the bouquet?

If you are reading this after the honeymoon and the bouquet is long gone, there is still an option. We recreate bouquets with similar fresh flowers from a photograph, and preserve the recreation instead.
